(MSFT - news) says it has issued broad subpoenas to some of its leading competitors, seeking evidence to defend itself in the government's landmark antitrust lawsuit against the software maker. ``Our discovery requests are asking for information about our competitors' efforts to collaborate with each other in attacking Microsoft,'' said Mark Murray, a spokesman for the Redmond, Wash., software firm. The firms subpoenaed are Netscape Communications Inc., Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW - news), IBM Corp., Oracle Corp. (ORCL - news) and Novell Inc. (NOVL - news) ... The Microsoft subpoenas were issued as a holiday weekend began Friday.
